A crown can be used to accomplish a couple of purposes. A crown can be used to save a natural tooth that is extremely damaged. It can also be used in cosmetic dentistry to improve the beauty of a smile. At Matthews Smiles, we will design a crown specifically for you so that it will match the natural look, feel, and bite of your existing natural teeth. We use materials that are durable and virtually invisible to the eye. The crowns that we develop will be less damaging to your gums than traditional crowns tend to be. You will gain a beautiful smile and the confidence that goes with it.
Are Crowns For Me?
Age will weaken your teeth as time passes. Weaker teeth tend to decay, stain, and crack. If you look in the mirror and feel that your smile has lost some of its beauty, crowns are a wonderful way to restore a smile.
Also, your dentist may determine that a crown will protect a damaged or decayed tooth from further damage. Crowns are often used when the job is too big for a filling.
What is the Process for Crowns?
It typically takes two or three office visits to install a crown.
- The dentist will need to file off a small amount of enamel from your damaged tooth in order to fit the crown over that tooth.
- Once the enamel has been filed, the dentist will make a mold of the tooth in order to fabricate a custom crown for you.
- When the custom-fabricated crown comes in to the office a couple of weeks later, you will need an office visit in order for us to permanently place the crown.
Your new crown will leave you smiling and confident. You will need to give it good oral hygiene just like your natural teeth.
