Convenient Access from Pleasant View

Pleasant View wraps around the north side of BYU, and from its museum corner on Canyon Road, Matthews Smiles Dental is about 4 minutes away by car. Our family-owned office sits on University Avenue in north Provo, so anyone searching for a dentist near Pleasant View can get here with barely a turn. Two doctors handle cleanings, fillings, wisdom teeth, clear braces and cosmetic work under one roof.

Begin at the BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures, 2201 North Canyon Road. Leave the lot, swing onto 2230 North and turn right on University Avenue (US 189). Stay in the northbound lanes for about 1.4 miles, then turn right on 3700 North and right again on 100 East to reach 3610 N University Ave #200, Provo, UT 84604.

The whole drive is 1.6 miles, a 4-minute trip on most days, with LaVell Edwards Stadium and the free BYU Museum of Paleontology only a few blocks behind you at the start. Save our location on Google Maps before you head out. Neighbors west of the river and south toward campus have their own directions on our Carterville and BYU pages.

Setting Up Care of Your Own in Pleasant View

Pleasant View is one of eight neighborhoods in Provo's North District. It runs from University Avenue on the west up toward the foothill bench on the east, with Canyon Road, 2200 North and 2230 North as its main streets. A KSL feature once described it as sitting "in the heart of many things that make Provo what it is," and that rings true for anyone who lives a short walk from a stadium, two university museums and the city's main north-south avenue.

The crowd here skews young. Graduate students, newly married couples and early-career workers rent alongside longtime owners, many in homes that date to the 1970s. For a lot of these residents, this is the first time they have chosen a dentist themselves instead of keeping the one a parent picked years ago.

That first choice matters, and we try to make it an easy one. Matthews Smiles Dental has been family owned and operated for more than 45 years, so you are not signing up with an office that will change hands next semester. An office concierge greets you at the front, and warm blankets help on a chilly Utah morning.

Our doors open at 8 AM Monday through Friday. We close at 5 PM Monday through Thursday and at 4 PM on Friday, which leaves room for an early visit before a lab, a shift or a lecture.

What Pleasant View's Twentysomethings Should Know About Their Teeth

Busy young adults tend to snack on the run, sip sweet or acidic drinks through long study sessions and push checkups down the list. None of that causes trouble overnight. Over a year or two, though, small cavities can grow between visits that never happen.

The early twenties are also when wisdom teeth tend to announce themselves. Pressure at the back of the jaw, swollen gums behind the last molar or food that keeps catching in the same spot are all reasons to have them looked at. An x-ray shows whether they have room to come in or are better removed while recovery is usually simpler.

Coverage can be patchy in this stage of life, too. Students age off a parent's plan, campus jobs end and new employers bring new benefits. If you are between plans, our $89 new-patient cleaning, exam, x-ray and fluoride treatment is open to new patients without insurance who do not have periodontal disease, which makes restarting your routine affordable.

Homeowners who have lived in Pleasant View for decades face a different set of questions, mostly around aging fillings and crowns. The same short drive up University Avenue serves both groups, and both get a clear explanation of what an exam finds before anything is scheduled.

Straightening teeth is another goal that tends to surface in this stage of life. Clear braces move teeth without metal brackets, which suits anyone heading into job interviews, client meetings or a classroom of their own. Many adults who skipped orthodontics years ago choose this route once their own paycheck makes it possible.

Treatments From a Dentist Near Pleasant View

  • Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Crowded or partly erupted wisdom teeth are common among the young adults who rent near campus. Removal is planned around your semester or work calendar, and sedation is available.

  • Restorative Dentistry

Fillings repair the cavities that late nights and skipped visits leave behind. Longtime owners on Canyon Road use the same service to replace older work before it fails.

  • Cosmetic Dentistry

Job interviews, weddings and graduation photos send many residents looking for a brighter or more even smile. Dr. Matthews has focused on cosmetic work since 1994.

  • Preventative Dentistry

Twice-yearly cleanings, exams and x-rays keep small issues small. A 4-minute drive makes these quick visits easy to keep, even in a packed week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Matthews Smiles Dental from Pleasant View, and how do I get there?

From the BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures it is 1.6 miles, about 4 minutes by car. Take 2230 North to University Avenue, drive north to 3700 North, then turn onto 100 East into the lot. That single straight run is why so many residents treat us as their dentist near Pleasant View rather than crossing town.

Are the BYU museums on Canyon Road close to the start of the drive?

Yes, both are a few blocks apart on Canyon Road. The Museum of Peoples and Cultures is at 2201 North Canyon Road and is open weekdays from 9 to 5. The Museum of Paleontology, at 1683 North Canyon Road, is free to visit. Either one makes an easy stop before or after an appointment.

Does BYU football traffic slow the trip out of Pleasant View?

It can on game days. LaVell Edwards Stadium seats more than 62,000 people, and crowds near the stadium can back up Canyon Road and the side streets at the start of the drive. Once you reach University Avenue heading north, traffic usually thins. Booking around home games keeps the trip short.

Will the office work with dental insurance from a new job or campus position?

Very likely, since the practice works with a multitude of insurance providers. The team files your claims and gives you a detailed breakdown of costs before any treatment begins. Bring your new card to the first visit, and the front desk can confirm your benefits while you settle in.

Where does Pleasant View meet the Rock Canyon neighborhood?

The two meet along the north side of Pleasant View, near 2230 and 2320 North. Centennial Middle School and Rock Canyon Elementary stand side by side on 2320 North at that edge. Both neighborhoods belong to Provo's North District, along with Riverside, where our office sits on University Avenue.
